With all the demands and expectations of life, it is becoming more important for us to take some much needed time out to recharge our batteries. One solution is to disconnect and refresh with meditation and hypnosis.

How Do You Meditate?

For a long time I found it difficult to meditate. I found that I would get distracted really easily and I had no idea what I was doing. I knew that many celebrities and wealthy entrepreneurs use meditation on a regular basis, but I often found myself wondering why?

How can we recharge our batteries with such chaotic lives?

To combat the chaos in life, I prioritise my downtime and regularly disconnect and refresh with meditation and hypnosis. I have been using meditation and hypnosis for over two years now.

In the past I had struggled with adrenal fatigue, migraines, anxiety and depression, and the thought of having to take medication did not interest me. I searched high and low for natural alternatives, and one day somebody suggested that I should try a combination meditation and hypnosis.

For many years, my mother had struggled with fatigue, which seemed to mainly be caused from poor sleep. She tended to have very shallow sleep patterns. Sometimes she would wake up in the middle of the night and stare at the ceiling for hours, usually falling asleep just before she needed to get up to start her day.

After personally experimenting with meditation and hypnosis for a while and having some great results, I promptly suggested that she gave guided hypnosis a try too. Which she did and said that she felt much more rested and she now sleeps well; usually for the whole night.

We are well aware that it is common for young families and older women to suffer from sleeplessness. However, it is becoming more and more common for many people who use technology frequently, have high stress occupations, health or financial concerns to also suffer from sleeplessness. Unfortunately, these situations are experienced by a very large number of the global population.

Studies have shown that the continuous illumination from lights and the use of blue light emitting screens, especially in the late evening, can impact your circadian rhythms, which affects your sleep patterns. It is suggested that we disconnect from our technology and turn the lights to dim, if possible, at least 30 minutes to an hour before retiring to bed.

We should avoid having devices such as mobile phones, tablets, computers and televisions in our bedrooms because the blue light emitted from these screens throw our body clock out of whack. The blue light from these screens is a similar frequency to sunlight, and it sends a messages which your brain interprets as ‘it is still daytime’.

When you disconnect and refresh with meditation and hypnosis you essentially give your body and mind permission to recover. We turn off and reboot our computers and smart devices regularly to allow them to operate more effectively, but how often do we turn off and reboot ourselves?

Recently I read a study which highlighted that children under 5 years old are spending around 14 hours per week (an average of 2 hours per day) in front of the television and on mobile devices, and teens are spending up to 44 hours per week on mobile devices. Technology is causing many harmful side effects including diminishing social skills and emotional management in youth.

Technology is a wonderful tool, but we need to put some limitations in place. Other studies suggest that our habits with technology are contributing to weight gain through sedentary behaviours, diabetes, some cancers and heart disease.

There are over 1,400 studies that communicate the benefits of when we disconnect and refresh with meditation and hypnosis. Neurologists have studied the brain patterns of people who disconnect and refresh with meditation and hypnosis on a regular basis and found a number of health benefits including:

Why should I meditate?

It took a bit of trial and error before I found something that works for me. I like to start my day with meditation because I feel fresh and feel that is gives me clarity and helps me focus.

Using meditation is really quite simple. Start by allocating some time each day, between 5 and 30 minutes. You may need to schedule it into your calendar or wake up 15 – 30 minutes earlier every morning.

I know this sounds challenging, but it’s a really nice way to start your day. You’re not diving out of bed in a rush, you’re just gently easing your way into the day and you’ll be amazed how much energy you have.

Tips on improving your meditation

I recommend wearing comfortable clothes, sit or lie down in a comfortable position. You could play some calming music, light a candle and burn incense or aromatherapy oils to help engage your senses.

Sometimes, I like to use my Tibetan singing bowl to heighten the vibrational energy in the room. The noise vibrations are rather pleasant and calming. The vibrations produced by the singing bowl improves the energy in the room and resonates with the vibration in your body. Try adding a little water to the bowl, it sound like dolphins singing.

Start by focusing on your breathing and observe your thoughts. When your mind starts racing, concentrate on your breathing and bring your focus back to your breath. When you’re ready, you can start adding some structure into your meditation practice. I like to use this time to focus on six key areas.

  1. Compassion
  2. Gratitude
  3. Forgiveness
  4. Visualisation
  5. My perfect day
  6. Blessing
